Wanderlog – Rated As One Of The Best Travel Planning Apps
After all these years, I’ve finally made the transition from paper to paperless with one of the best travel planning Apps on the market. This renowned App is called …
Wanderlog
Wanderlog is an absolutely free travel app that’s great for planning and organizing any kind of trip around the world. Organize and enter all your travel; bookings, itinerary, attractions, budget costs and so much more, quickly and easily.
Now, there’s no need for dragging endless amounts of paper along with you on your travels.
About Wanderlog
Wanderlog has been touted as one of the best travel planner apps on the market. An app or application, is a self-contained software package allowing its users to perform specific tasks, on a mobile or desktop device.
Co-founders, Peter and Harry Xu {twin brothers}, are based in San Francisco and both of them have engineering backgrounds.
“Wanderlog is a free travel app (with an optional subscription) for planning every kind of trip, including road trips and group travel: create a trip itinerary, budget costs, organize flight and hotel reservations, view places to visit on a map, and collaborate with friends.”
The app launched around 2019 and since its inception, they have received over 1 million downloads, both on Google Play and the App Store.
Wanderlog has become the perfect go to app, for anyone planning a vacation or even a quick road trip. With its unique integrated itinerary and map view, putting together and viewing your travel plans is a breeze.
The route optimization feature for road trips, will even plan the most cost effective route for you.
With their optional paid annual subscription, you can export your trip to Google Maps and even link your gmail account. When your trip is complete, share your travel guide with others.

Wanderlog Pro Version
After testing out the {Free Version} and like what the app has to offer, you may want to consider upgrading to their {Pro Version}, especially if you travel often. In addition to all the free inclusions I’ve listed above, you can also;
⭐ Get {Offline} access for trip plans anywhere in the world. This is great for international travel, where data and wi-fi may be limited. All your travel plans are automatically stored offline, for you to access at any time.
⭐ Receive real time route optimization to save travel time during each day.
⭐ Gives you an estimated time & distance to travel between places you’ve entered in your daily itinerary. This allows you to see how much time you have to fit everything you have entered to see and do each day, along with driving times.
⭐ Export everything you’ve prepared to google maps if you choose and more!
As you can see in the chart above, they offer a great deal for the many extras you receive. I especially like the offline access option, especially if you’re away on a road trip with limited internet access.
Accolades
Condé Nast Traveler is a luxury and lifestyle travel magazine published by Condé Nast. The magazine has won; 25 National Magazine Awards.
“One of the best travel apps for planning every kind of trip including; road trips and group travel: create a trip itinerary, budget costs, organize flights and hotel reservations, and collaborate with friends. After your trip, share a travel guide to other travelers.”
The first time I used Wanderlog, is when I put together a complete itinerary for our lengthy road trip in Scotland. Take it from me, one who’s not that savvy with apps and such.
It was incredibly simple to put together, making it very user-friendly!
You can change things as you go and even get recommendations for things to see and do along the way. Their unique “web-scanning database” has an endless amount of information you can view and add, should you choose to do so at any time.
Explore major sights and attractions along the way, including places to eat and drink. The map view is excellent as well, highlighting everything you’ve added to your trip itinerary.
A bonus feature, is the app allows real-time itinerary sharing and collaboration with family and friends.
If you’re looking to go paperless and want to download a free travel planning app, then I highly recommend giving Wanderlog a try. With over a million downloads, they’re certainly doing something right!
Below, I’ve listed their official website link, where you can check out much more detailed information on their app and what they have to offer.

Update July 2024
I was pleasantly surprised to receive an email in my inbox from Wanderlog. They were notifying me, that one of my upcoming hotel reservations in Scotland I had entered into the app, was available at a lower price.
I did have free cancellation for the initial reservation, so I cancelled and re-booked at the new promo offer. In fact, I even saved more because I had signed up for their loyalty program. A total savings of $55. cdn. thanks to the Wanderlog App!
Update
As mentioned above, we had the opportunity to try out their Pro Version on our road trip vacation in Scotland.
The App worked great, and we especially liked the {Offline Download} option.
We were able to enter our full road trip itinerary, including sites & attractions to visit for each day. We will continue to use Wanderlog on all our upcoming travels.
We also recently used the app for our amazing vacation in the French Polynesia. Again, it was excellent to have and use while renting a car on the islands.
