A Brief History Of Princess Cruise Line

Princess began back in 1965 with just one ship. Today, they are now the third largest cruise line in the world. The fleet now consists of fifteen beautifully appointed ships, in 3 different classes.
Their grand ships carry around 3600 passengers, and are estimated at 141,000 tons.
Two of these ships are named; The Regal and Royal Princess.
While visiting my home city of Victoria, British Columbia, I was lucky enough to capture the Regal Princess (pictured above), docked during the summer.
This Port of Call, is one of their very popular stops on the {Alaska Cruise} itinerary.
Princess Cruise Line And The Beloved Love Boat
The Love Boat Hit Television Series
If you’re a baby boomer like myself or even older, than I’m sure you remember the; 1977 Hit Television Series in North America called; The Love Boat. This extremely popular series, virtually put {Princess Cruise Lines} on the map, making it a household name.
At that time, the {Pacific Princess} was their starring ship. It was the incredible success of this weekly television hit series that ran for; ten full seasons.
It introduced the new and exciting world of cruise vacations to the world!
Critics have often stated that The Love Boat Series, is what started the cruise industry explosion worldwide.
The company’s unique brand the “Sea Witch” logo was used back then and still today. You can see it on all their ships and advertising.

Update:
The Princess Fleet continues to expand, with the new Royal Class Sky Princess having made its debut in 2019.
As well, two more ships; the {Enchanted Princess} launched in June of 2020. The sixth and final; Royal Class ship {Discovery Princess}, set sail in 2022.
These two {Royal Class} ships, have certainly put the icing on the cake, to an already amazing line of Princess Ships.
In Princess’ new Sphere class {Sun Princess}, is the line’s largest vessel to date.

I still live on Vancouver Island and love to return as often as I can to the city. One of my favorite things to do is head down to the Cruise Ship pier and walk along the beautiful breakwater.
This is a great location for a scenic oceanfront walk and to also watch the cruise ships coming and going. In fact, hundreds of ships dock in Victoria while on route or returning from their {Alaska Cruise} itineraries.
