Atmos Rewards: The New Loyalty Program for Alaska Airlines & Hawaiian Airlines

Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines have a new joint loyalty program called Atmos Rewards, which replaces Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan (effective immediately) and HawaiianMiles (later this year).

As part of the new launch, there are some very interesting changes coming on the elite status and credit card front, as well as new terminology to get used to.

In this article, we’ll provide a quick overview of Atmos Rewards and what you can expect from the program for the rest of this year and into 2026.

Atmos Rewards: The New Loyalty Program for Alaska Airlines & Hawaiian Airlines

Atmos Rewards is the newest loyalty program to launch in the United States. It’s a combined program that will be used by both Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines, which came as a result of Alaska Airlines acquiring Hawaiian Airlines last year.

Effective immediately, Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan has been replaced by Atmos Rewards, which means that your Alaska miles are now Atmos Rewards points.

When you sign into your account, you’ll notice this change (as well as a number of other branding changes).

Meanwhile, HawaiianMiles continues to exist, but will be replaced by Atmos Rewards as of October 1, 2025. HawaiianMiles accounts will be inaccessible from September 26–30, 2025, as the program is migrated to Atmos Rewards.

There aren’t any changes to the cost for award flights, which means that if it cost 55,000 Alaska miles to fly one-way from Calgary to Frankfurt in Condor business class, it’ll cost 55,000 Atmos Rewards points to book the same flight.

The biggest changes that come with the launch pertain to elite status and co-branded credit cards. We’ll go over the biggest changes below, and you can read more about the changes in detail on the Alaska Airlines website.

Atmos Rewards Status

Going forward, there will continue to be four tiers of status in Atmos Rewards, as there are with Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan. Note that these names/requirements take effect in 2026, and qualifying for status with Alaska Airlines remains unchanged through the rest of 2025.

  • Atmos Silver replaces MVP (and comes with oneworld Ruby)
  • Atmos Gold replaces MVP Gold (and comes with oneworld Sapphire)
  • Atmos Platinum replaces MVP Gold 75K (and comes with oneworld Emerald)
  • Atmos Titanium replaces MVP Gold 100K (and comes with oneworld Emerald)

Beginning in 2026, you’ll qualify for Atmos Rewards status by accumulating status points instead of elite qualifying miles at the following levels:

  • Atmos Silver requires 20,000 status points (no change to before)
  • Atmos Gold requires 40,000 status points (no change to before)
  • Atmos Platinum requires 80,000 status points (up from 75,000, or a ~7% increase)
  • Atmos Titanium requires 135,000 status points (up from 100,000, or a 35% increase)

In addition to earning status points on flights, you can also earn them through credit card spending, which we’ll outline below.

There will be some changes to the benefits offered at each status level, which are outlined in detail on the Alaska Airlines website.

Most notably, all status holders will be eligible for upgrades when flying with Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines within North America, and Atmos Titanium members will be eligible for complimentary upgrades into business class on global routes.

Choose Your Own Points/Status Accrual

One of the most interesting features of Atmos Rewards is that you’ll be able to pick how you’d like to earn Atmos Rewards points and status points when you fly.

Once per year (beginning in 2026), you’ll have the option of choosing between the following accrual methods:

  • Distance travelled: 1 mile flown = 1 point earned
  • Price paid: $1 spend = 5 points earned
  • Segments flown: 500 points per segment flown

This option will allow you to customize your earning for the most streamlined approach based on your individual flying patterns.

Atmos Rewards Credit Cards

Existing Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan co-branded credit cards will shift to Atmos Rewards co-branded credit cards:

  • The Alaska Airlines Visa Signature becomes the Atmos Rewards Ascent Visa Signature
  • The Alaska Airlines Visa Business becomes the Atmos Rewards Visa Business

On these cards, you’ll earn 1 status point per $3 spent, which is capped at 30,000 status points to the remainder of 2025, and uncapped starting in 2026.

In other words, you’d have to put the following amount of spend on the cards to earn Atmos Rewards status:

  • Atmos Silver requires 20,000 status points, or $60,000 of eligible spend
  • Atmos Gold requires 40,000 status points, or $120,000 of eligible spend
  • Atmos Platinum requires 80,000 status points, or $240,000 of eligible spend
  • Atmos Titanium requires 135,00 status points, or $405,000 of eligible spend

We’ve also seen the introduction of a new premium credit card into the Atmos Rewards co-branded lineup: the Atmos Rewards Summit Visa Infinite Card.

This card will earn 1 status point per $2 spent, which means that you’d have to spend the following to earn Atmos Rewards status:

  • Atmos Silver requires 20,000 status points, or $40,000 of eligible spend
  • Atmos Gold requires 40,000 status points, or $80,000 of eligible spend
  • Atmos Platinum requires 80,000 status points, or $160,000 of eligible spend
  • Atmos Titanium requires 135,00 status points, or $270,000 of eligible spend

The Atmos Rewards Summit Visa Infinite Card also comes packed with a number of other features in exchange for its $395 price tag, including the following:

  • 10,000 status points each year on the cardholder anniversary
  • $50 instant travel delay credit when your Alaska Airlines flight is delayed by two or more hours (or cancelled), valid for 48 hours
  • Annual Global Companion Award worth 25,000 points
  • Annual Global Companion Award worth 100,000 points upon spending $60,000
  • 3x Atmos Rewards points on foreign purchases
  • 8 Alaska Lounge passes
  • Much more

Full information on this new credit card can be found on the Alaska Airlines website.

Other Notable Changes

Here are a few other notable changes with the introduction of Atmos Rewards:

  • If you’re a cardholder of the Atmos Rewards Summit Visa Infinite Card, you can pool points with up to 10 people, with no cap on the amount of points that can be pooled and no transfer fees
  • All Atmos Rewards members will enjoy free Starlink Wi-Fi (to be completed by early 2027)
  • Atmos Rewards points will never expire

Atmos Rewards for Canadian Travellers

In Canada, Alaska Airlines has a relatively small footprint, offering flights to Victoria, Vancouver, Kelowna, Calgary, Edmonton, and Toronto. Hawaiian Airlines doesn’t currently offer any flights to Canada.

However, if you’re based in any of these cities and fly frequently on the Alaska Airlines and/or Hawaiian Airlines networks, Atmos Rewards should be an overall improvement for you (even if the top two levels of status will require more status points than they do now).

While Atmos Rewards points will continue to be difficult to earn directly in Canada (as was the case with Alaska miles), if you can access the program by way of cross-border credit card strategies, strategically crediting oneworld flying to Atmos Rewards, and/or buying Atmos Rewards points outright during sales, there’s a strong argument to be made for engaging with the program.

Plus, you can credit Porter Airlines flights to Atmos Rewards, which could be a strategy to consider if you’re able to finesse your way to Atmos Rewards status (and earning valuable Atmos Rewards points in the process, too).

For flights with partner airlines booked on the Alaska Airlines website, there’s a universal earning rate to simplify the accrual process:

  • Premium economy fares earn 100% base points and 50% bonus points, as well as 150% status points
  • Economy fares earn 100% base points, as well as 100% status points
  • Discount economy fares earn 100% base points, as well as 100% status points

Meanwhile, flights with partner airlines booked via partner airline channels and credited to Atmos Rewards accrue points and status points at reduced rates:

  • Premium economy fares earn 100% base points, as well as 100% status points
  • Economy fares earn 50% base points, as well as 50% status points
  • Discount economy fares earn 25% base points, as well as 25% status points

Therefore, you may want to look at the price difference (if any) between booking via the Alaska Airlines website and the Porter Airlines website, and then crunch the numbers to see if it works in your favour (if it’s eligible in the first place).

Conclusion

Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines have launched a new joint loyalty program called Atmos Rewards. Mileage Plan members are now Atmos Rewards members, and HawaiianMiles members will become Atmos Rewards members on October 1, 2025.

While the redemption side of the program remains largely unchanged, there are a number of sweeping changes to elite status, co-branded credit cards, and how you can earn points/status points on flights.

Full information about the changes can be found on the Alaska Airlines website, and we’ll be updating our existing Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan content on a rolling basis in the weeks and months ahead.
